Diffusion Recombination in Polyethylene

Abstract

THE recombination of carriers in polyethylene and other good insulators during gamma irradiation has in the past been interpreted1 in terms of the Rose2 theory of conduction processes. The fall of conductivity after irradiation has ceased has in consequence been expressed1,3 in terms of a hyperbolic decay as expected from a bimolecular recombination mechanism.
