Abstract
BROMOURACIL inhibits bacterial growth through its incorporation into the deoxyribonucleic acids in place of thymine1; however, infectivity of bacteriophage2 and transforming activity3 remain even though the DNA is heavily labelled with bromouracil. In this communication we wish to report on the incorporation of bromouracil into Bacillus subtilis wild-type DNA and its effects on cell growth when the organisms are plated on the medium used for enumeration of the total cell number in transformation experience.
