Recording of Electrical Potentials from Specific Areas of the Retina

Abstract

ELECTRICAL response obtained from the intact human eye1usually represents a gross summation of all sensory elements undergoing excitation by light. The levels of photic energy required for an electrical response are high; a good deal of light is scattered in the dioptric media2. As a result, considerably more retinal elements are stimulated than would be involved in excitation if the stimulus were at visual threshold level.
