Abstract
α-D,L-Methylaspartic acid (MA) is a strong inhibitor of hepatic argininosuccinate synthetase; inhibition of this enzyme was first described by Braunstein et al.1, on the basis of in vitro experiments, in which 200 µmoles of MA were added to samples containing L-citrulline, L-aspartate, adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and a respiratory substrate, in presence of rat liver slices and homogenate.
