THE extraction of the ‘brain’ hormone from the dissected pupal ‘brain’ in the silkworm, Bombyx mori, was carried out by Kobayashi and Kirimura1. Since then about 500,000 ‘brains’ dissected out free of corpora cardiaca and corpora allata of pupæ have been used as material in the purification of the hormone.
