Abstract
FŒTAL and perinatal cell differentiation may be considered as a sequence of progressive metabolic alterations determined in part by genetic and in part by environmental influences. Implied in genetically organized differentiation are the biological processes of maturation, growth and senescence which are collectively referred to as the ageing of the cell.
