Abstract
I WISH to report a new compound in the system CaO–Al2O3–CaF2. The compound is thought to be 3CaO.3Al2O3.CaF2 and was discovered simultaneously in separate but related fields of work. One investigation was concerned with the effect of additions of calcium fluoride to the system CaO–Al2O3. The other investigation was concerned with the effect of calcium fluoride on the important cementitious compound monocalcium aluminate. Quench-furnace techniques, X-ray methods, and optical methods were used in this work.
