Effects of Irradiation on the Incorporation of Amino-Acid into Normal and Regenerating Rat Liver

Abstract

THE biosynthesis of proteins has been studied in normal rat liver1,2 and in regenerating liver of partially hepatectomized rats3. Although the effect of ionizing radiations on the incorporation of amino-acids into proteins in normal rat liver has been investigated4,5, to our knowledge it has not been investigated in regenerating rat liver. The present report presents a comparison of the effects of X-rays on the potential capabilities of livers of normal and partially hepatectomized rats to incorporate amino-acids into their liver proteins in relation to the dose and time of exposure to radiation after hepatectomy.
