Method of dissolving Triacetyloleandomycin for the Assay of Sensitivity of Micro-organisms

Abstract

THE usual in vitro tests of the sensitivity of bacteria to antibiotics are not applicable to triacetyl-oleandomycin (TAO), known in Great Britain as ‘Evramycin’ and in the United States as ‘Cyclamycin’, since it is almost insoluble in water. In spite of this, TAO is known to be clinically effective, and after oral administration it attains a high concentration in the blood.
