Augmentation of the Pressor Response to Guanethedine by Inhibition of Catechol O-Methyltransferase

Abstract

INTRAVENOUS administration of guanethedine has been reported to cause a pressor response1,2, contraction of the nictitating membrane of the cat and pilo-erection2; the pressor response was not blocked by ganglionic blocking agents2. These phenomena lead to the possible conclusion that guanethedine causes a release of catecholamines or has some direct adrenergic effects.
