Abstract
CALIFORNIUM-252, a man-made trans-uranic element, having an α-particle half-life of 2.2 yr., undergoes spontaneous fission. Approximately one fission occurs per 38 α-particles, and the material is therefore well suited to an investigation of the possibility of rare modes of spontaneous fission.
