Effect of Total Body Irradiation on Capillary Permeability

Abstract

IT seems to be generally accepted that increased permeability of the capillary wall is one of the basic changes caused by exposure to massive X-irradiation. It must be emphasized, however, that the proofs for this supposition are very inconclusive. Tendency to bleeding and diffuse hæmorrhages may be produced not by increased permeability, but (besides the accompanying hæmatologic disorders) by an increase of capillary fragility, that is of susceptibility to injuries of the capillary wall.
