Formation of Phosphoserine from 3-Phosphoglycerate in Higher Plants

Abstract

STUDIES with carbon-14 dioxide in plants have indicated that serine may be formed from glycine1,2, and previous results from this laboratory3 have shown that serine and glycine are interconvertible in plant tissues. However, other studies4,5 have indicated that serine may be formed before glycine, and this communication presents evidence that serine may be formed via phosphoserine from phosphoglycerate, a pathway previously demonstrated in animals6.
