A Yellow Fluorescent Pigment in Elastin

Abstract

MAINLY due to the pioneer work of Szent-Györgyi1 it is known that a close relationship may exist between the fluorescence of a certain compound and its activity in energy transfer and thus in metabolism. This suggests that the strong fluorescence of elastin2, until recently regarded as an inert protein of only structural significance, may be important.
