HUNGATE1,2 successfully cultivated ciliate oligotrich protozoa from the rumen of cattle ; but Sugden3 was unable to maintain protozoa from the sheep's rumen alive for more than fifteen days. This communication describes the successful maintenance of these protozoa from the rumen of a single hay-fed Clun Forest sheep.
