Abstract
CRITICAL data bearing on the question of gene-conversion were obtained by analsysis of a yeast hybrid heterozygous for nine different genes. Thirty-four tetrads from a single family heterozygous for the genes controlling cadmium-sensitivity vs. resistance (CD/cd)1 and fermentation of methyl -α-D-glucopyranoside (MG/mg) were obtained from a single hybrid in which most of the nine loci segregated regularly. In addition to CD and cd a third phenotype (cd M) was characterized by capacity eventually to achieve cadmium-resistance, presumably by mutation—a potential lacking in the cd genotype. The three types are indicated by a three-membered ratio CD : cd M : cd (Table 1).
