Abstract
MR. KNIGHT'S letter inquires into the possibility of using computing machines to solve non-linear partial differential equations by the relaxation method. His suggestions imply two quite separate proposals : first, that non-linear equations can be solved by systematic relaxation; secondly, that the numerical processes involved can be programmed as a set of instructions an electronic computer.
