Absorption Spectra of Free PH2 and PD Radicals

Abstract

ALTHOUGH a large number of diatomic free radical spectra are known1, very few spectra of polyatomic free radicals have been positively identified. The spectra are of interest since they are a potential source of information concerning the electronic states of these radicals and their dissociation energies, the vibrational and rotational constants of these states and their bond-lengths and bond-angles. The only polyatomic free-radical spectrum for which a vibrational and rotational analysis has been carried out is that of HCO2 (and DCO), although partial analyses have been given for NH2 3,4, CF2 5,6, C3 7,8, SiC2 9, HS2 10, and a number of larger radicals, for example, CH3O11
