Abstract
IN 1922 when Winter and Smith1 published results indicating for the first time that glucose in the blood of normal animals and men occurs in a form which is different from the ordinary α- and β-glucose. Lungsgaard and Holboll2, from their polarimetric studies of blood, also concluded that a new form of glucose always occurs in the blood of normal human beings, but they could not say anything about its chemical nature or physiological significance.
