Abstract
IN the early 'twenties when the first work on this aspect of osmics was under active consideration our knowledge of the Raman lines below 1,000 cm.−1 was rudimentary, and while correlation between structural groups and the higher frequencies is now fairly well established, the need for a vibrational theory of odour does not, in my view, automatically disappear.
