Abstract
THE methylation of 2′-hydroxy-2 : 4 : 4 : 7 : 4′-pentamethylflavan (I, R = H) with dimethyl sulphate and alkali has been mentioned briefly by Baker and Besly1, who stated that the product (I, R = Me) was obtained in an impure amorphous state and that it separated from organic solvents as a jelly.
