Abstract
RECENT investigations of the photo-oxidation of alcohols, sensitized by benzophenone1 and by azodyes2, while providing valuable information regarding the general form of the reaction, do not enable its detailed mechanism to be specified. Using anthraquinonoid sensitizers, however, it has been possible to obtain diagnostic evidence as to the nature of the individual processes concerned.
