Abstract
IT has been generally admitted that cystin or cystein plays an important part in the growth, especially in the toxin formation, of Corynebacterium diphtheriœ1–6. However, while studying the production of diphtheric toxin on the simplified chemically defined medium which was described in previous communications7,8, complete replacement of cystin by thioglycollate has been observed without remarkable changes in the bacterial growth and toxin content.
