Glycogen Production from Glucose with Desoxycorticosterone and 11-Dehydro- 17-hydroxycorticosterone

Abstract

IT is often said that the different corticosteroids have qualitatively different activities. Desoxycorticosterone is believed to act only on electrolyte metabolism, while 11-dehydro-17-hydroxycorticosterone (compound E) acts on glycogen production. This view is based mainly on results with methods of bio-assay in which adrenalectomized rats on a high-protein diet are given divided doses of these corticosteroids over a period of six hours; two hours after the last injection, liver glycogen is estimated1–3.
