Mutations Induced in Drosophila by Ingested Phosphorus-32

Abstract

SEVERAL recent papers1–4 have described the cytological effects of radioactive phosphorus (P32) assimilated into plant tissues. As was to be expected, there was a general similarity between the structural changes so induced and X-ray changes. To our knowledge, no published account has yet appeared of the induction of gene mutations by phosphorus-32 or other radioisotopes.
