Abstract
AS in many other fields, there is a tendency to take stock, and there has been a suggestion, both expressed and implied, that the day of the local society is past. The Council of the British Association has had the matter under consideration and has circularized its corresponding and affiliated societies asking for detailed information on certain points and for suggestions. The replies have been collated, and the president of the Conference of Delegates of Corresponding Societies, Dr. J. Ramsbottom, made them the basis of his address with the intention of promoting discussion.
