Abstract
REMSEN et al.1, in the preparation of p-sulphonamido benzonitrile from p-sulphonamido benzoic acid by the action of phosphorus pentachloride, postulate the following mechanism of reaction: They remark on the shift of the nitrogen from the sulphone group to the carbon atom attached to the para position of the ring, but do not explain it. The following explanation of the mechanism is offered.
