Abstract
IN reply to a question in the House of Lords on December 4, Lord, Chorley stated that preliminary discussions had taken place with the wool, building, iron-foundry and silk industries regarding the use of the Defence (Services for Industry) Regulations, 1945, to further industrial research. In general, the development of arrangements of this kind had awaited the reports of the Working Parties set up by the Board of Trade, and all the reports so far received recommend the use of a compulsory levy to support scientific research. He stated that the proposals of these Working Parties on this, as on other matters, would be dealt with under the legislation announced in the King's speech, and which was intended to supersede the Defence (Services for Industry) Regulations.
