Abstract
No. 1, volume 17, at the Rheology Bulletin (May 1946) bears the of “E. C. Bingham Memorial Edition”, and tributes to the memory of Prof. Eugene Cook Bingham from the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the America Society of Testing Materials, the National Bureau of Standards, and Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania, at which he held the chair of chemistry for the past twenty-nine years. Prof. Bingham graduated from Middleburg College, Vermont, and the Johns Hopkins University. He was. professor of chemistry at Richmond College, Virginia, from 1906 to 1915; then, for a time during World War I, an assistant physicist at the National Bureau of Standards, where his work led to an outstanding paper entitled “An Investigation of the Laws of Plastic Flow”. In 1916 he was appointed to the chair of chemistry at Lafayette, which position he held until his death in November last.
