Abstract
ONE of the best ways of broadening our minds, and clearing ourselves of local limitations and prejudices, is travel in space. Travel in time is equally effective, and cheaper. It takes us out of our narrow setting and restores our sense of proportion by confronting our parochialisms with those of other peoples and periods.
