Abstract
THE recent appointment of a Committee on Public Schools by the President of the Board of Education has stimulated much discussion on the function of the public schools. The main object of this Committee is “to consider means whereby the association between the Public Schools and the general educational system of the country could be developed and extended”. The Committee's terms of reference imply only a modification of the existing system. It is for this reason that we issue this statement raising the whole question of the existence of the public schools.
