Abstract
AT present four large dams serve the metropolitan area of Sydney with its water supply. The Woronora dam, which is now nearly completed, is in tha Upper Nepean catchment, and serves Sydney through a separate pipeline. This will greatly increase the margin of safety against any possible failure of supply to Sydney, which has a population of nearly a million and a half. The dam is a mass concrete structure with a crest length of 1,300 ft. According to the Commonwealth Engineer of May 1, it will be 217 ft. high above foundation level and will impound approximately 15,800 million gallons.
