Abstract
THE use as an intoxicant of hemp resin, collected from the flowering tops and other parts of the plant, is of great antiquity. Cannabis was probably cultivated partly for this use three thousand years ago in China, and such cultivation has spread widely: to India, Persia, Greece, Arabia and Egypt; through Africa and the Americas, where “the situation [as regards addiction] is of the utmost gravity and is one which calls for drastic measures of eradication”1.
