Abstract
DURING the last few years, the Bureau d'Etudes geologiques et Minieres coloniales has published four bulletins on French colonial mineral resources. These concern coal, iron, zinc and lead, and phosphates respectively. Now a fifth and final bulletin of the series, on petroleum, is available. The introductory chapter to this bulletin contains a description of petroleum deposits in general, with special reference to geological conditions necessary for their accumulation, migration and distribution. This is followed by a concise exposition of present-day methods of exploration to enable the reader to appreciate what has already been accomplished in this direction in French Colonies, also what still remains to be done.
