Abstract
ON May 30, 1932, a whale shark was caught on the bow of the United Fruit Company's steamer Talamanca in lat. 8° 14' N. and long. 82° 46' W., in the Pacific near Burica Point on the western boundary of Panama. This information was communicated to the U.S. Hydrographic Office by the second officer of the ship (whose name was not given), and was passed on to me by Admiral W. R. Gherardi, hydrographer. Accompanying the account was a splendid photograph showing a whale shark hung on the stem of the vessel.
