Abstract
THE conferences organised annually by Prof. Debye at the Physical Institute of the University of Leipzig are beginning to occupy in German scientific life a similar position to that which the general discussions of the Faraday Society have taken up during the quarter century which has passed since the series was initiated by a discussion on “Osmotic Pressure” in 1907. Unlike the annual meetings of the Bunsengesellschaft, where attention is directed away from the main topic of discussion by a large mass of independent papers, a single subject is selected and this is discussed by a number of reporters chosen on an international basis.
