Abstract
DR. GEDDES' detailed geogrphical and sociological study of a small area of Bengal is enhanced by his intimate knowledge of the Hindu spirit and ideals derived from long association with Rabindranath Tagore. This has enabled him to see the peasants' point of view and to consider with sympathy the rural civilisation of Bengal and the ideals for its regeneration which have been advocated by thoughtful leaders in India. The volume is thus not only a contribution to Indian geography and sociology, but also has value in any schemes of sane reorganisation in the India of to-morrow.
