Abstract
DUBLIN. Royal Irish Academy, June 24.—Brian Coffey and Hugh Ryan: The action of alcoholic hydrochloric acid on certain unsaturated ketones. Alcoholic hydrochloric acid with a-benzylidene -methylethyl. ketone gave a crystalline substance, m.p. 195°-196°C. with formula C22H24O2, from which a tribromide C22H21O2Br3, m.p. 171°-172°C. was obtained. Unlike α-benzylidene-methylethyl-ketone, it did not condense with either piperonal or methylethyl-ketone and was stable towards mild reducing or oxidising agents. It proved to be the dimer
