Dr Brigid Hogan obtained her PhD in 1968 from the University of Cambridge and carried out postdoctoral training at MIT. After returning to the UK she worked at both the Imperial Cancer Research Fund and the National Institute for Medical Research. In 1988 Dr Hogan moved to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, where she is currently an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Her interests are in the genetic regulation of embryonic development, using the mouse as a model system. Dr Hogan's laboratory has made key observations on the role of signaling proteins in mediating inductive cell interactions during early development, and in the growth and morphogenesis of complex tissues and organs.
