Abstract
MOST books describing electric motors and controllers are written mainly from the point of view of the de-signer, that is, from the point of view of the manufacturer. The number of operating engineers, however, is much larger than the number of designers, and faulty application, as the author points out, can nullify good design. This book is intended for students and for those interested in the selection, application, purchase, and sale of electric motors and controllers. The discussions are simple and practical and will be easily understood by the engineer. Although many graphs are given, vector diagrams and higher mathematics have been rigorously excluded. The control diagrams all conform to standard American practice, but the practice in Great Britain is much the same. A very full bibliography is given.
