Abstract
THIS is the twenty-third issue of a year-book in which progress in various branches of science is described in a series of articles by different authors, with references to the original publications abstracted. The subjects are dealt with under (1) physics; (2) chemistry; (3) astronomy; (4) meteorology; (5) anthropology, ethnology, and archaology; (6) mineralogy and geology; (7) zoology; (8) botany; (9) forestry and agriculture; (10) geography; (n) hygiene and medicine; (12) applied mechanics; (13) technology; (14) miscellaneous reports. In addition, the volume contains summaries of celestial phenomena observable from May 1, 1908, to May 1, 1909, short obituary notices of men of science deceased in the year surveyed, and an author-and-subject index.
