Abstract
II. AS regards temperature and rainfall the South of England, from Dover to Portland, presents a unique and well-marked winter climate, quite distinct from that of any other tract of the British Islands. The tract in question embraces the comparatively narrow belt, varying in width from two to ten miles, stretching between these two places and backed on the north by the sheltering range of the South Downs.
