Abstract
IT seems to have escaped Dr. Carpenter's notice1 that, in a Report en the results of the Deep-sea Dredgings of Mr. Pourtalès for 1866, 1867, 1868, Prof. Agassiz1 had already called attention to the probable great antiquity of the oceanic basins.
